DCHS presents Open House
DCHS presents an Open House October 25 starting at 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. featuring several Big Events including a Band Concert from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and a Choir Concert from 7 to 7:40 p.m. Project Graduation will present a Haunted House from 5:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Make a donation to enter. The Haunted House will remain open one hour later than the Open House. Other activities include a LIVE wax museum, trick-or-treating, yearbook FLASH SALE, student projects and work on display, the guidance office will be open, CTE/STEM demonstrations, free throw contest, and food trucks!
DeKalb Middle School Chili/Soup Supper/ Silent Auction
The DeKalb Middle School Chili/Soup Supper/ Silent Auction will be Saturday, November 6 from 5-7 p.m. Dine in or carry out. Tickets available from any DMS Student. The cost is $10 and includes a bowl of soup/chili, hot dog, dessert and drink. Lots of auction items including desserts, baskets of goodies and DCHS Softball and basketball baskets with tickets, etc. A book fair will also be taking place during the event with other fun things for students such as inflatables, cornhole, music and dancing
Women’s Conference
A Women’s Conference will be held Saturday, November 6 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 2933 Banks Pisgah Road, Smithville. Kellie Meyers will be the guest speaker with special music and lunch to be served.
Church Fish Fry
A Fish Fry will be held Saturday, October 23 from 4-6 p.m. at the Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 2933 Banks Pisgah Road, Smithville. The cost is $8.00 per plate. 8th Annual Chili Supper and Silent Auction to benefit the Angel Tree Fund and Alexandria Fire Department
The 8th Annual Chili Supper and Silent Auction to benefit the Angel Tree Fund and Alexandria Fire Department will be Saturday, November 6th from 11:00am-6:00pm. Located in Alexandria at the DeKalb County Fairgrounds inside the Kenneth Sandlin Center. All proceeds from the Silent Auction will go directly into an Angel Tree Fund. American Legion and Ladies’ Auxiliary Meeting
The American Legion and Ladies’ Auxiliary will be meeting this Thursday, October 21st at 6:00 at the building at Snow Hill. A meal will be enjoyed before the meeting. Chicken Strips from Kilgore’s will be the main entree. All members and spouses are invited to come. Anyone attending needs to bring a compatible dish and/or dessert.
Haven of Hope Golf Tournament
The Haven of Hope Golf Tournament will be November 6 at the River Watch Country Club. The cost is $75 per player or $300 per team. Tier winners, hole prizes, door prizes & a $1,000 hole in one prize. “Smithville’s Unquiet Dead: A Haunted History Tour”
Smithville has a ghoulish past with stories of devilish deeds that will make your hair stand on end. Learn all about these blood curdling events on a guided journey called “Smithville’s Unquiet Dead: A Haunted History Tour” that will take you to the scenes of these horrific crimes. It’s a pre-Halloween event you don’t want to miss. Come along if you dare Tuesday and Thursday, October 19 & 21 starting at 6:30 p.m. each night. The cost is only $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 years of age and younger and all proceeds raised will be donated to the DeKalb Animal Coalition for the continued operation of the DeKalb Animal Shelter. The starting point of the tour each night is the law office of Sarah J. Cripps at 201 West Main Street Smithville at 6:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased there beginning at 5:30 p.m. each of those nights. Tickets are available now at various local businesses and establishments including the law offices of Sarah J. Cripps, Tecia Puckett Pryor, the DeKalb Animal Shelter among others.
27th Annual DeKalb County Angel Tree Project Signups Coming Soon
The 27th Annual DeKalb County Angel Tree Project signups are coming soon. Friday, November 5th has been chosen as the application date. There are NO EXCEPTIONS. Application time is from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm at the First Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center under the carport. Applicants must be DeKalb County residents. Children from birth to no older than age 12 by December 25, 2021 are eligible. You must bring photo identification and a bill with the correct current DeKalb County address of the person applying. You must also provide social security cards and birth certificates (Mother’s copy is okay) for all children listed on the application. Guardian paperwork for temporarily placed children is acceptable. Documents are returned to the applicant, only the application is kept. Please make sure you fill out the application as completely and accurately as possible. If an applicant cannot appear in person, their application can be submitted by someone else as long as all of the required information and documentation is presented. Come prepared with all of the necessary documentation to complete your application between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm on Friday, November 5th. This is the only day that applications will be available and accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS. Due to continued COVID 19 issues, face coverings are required and social distancing practices will be observed. County Commission to Host Workshop on Guidelines of American Rescue Plan Act
The DeKalb County Commission will have a workshop on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the county complex. Upper Cumberland Development District Executive Director Mark Farley will discuss guidelines to date of the American Rescue Plan Act and how funds can be utilized.
Fall Church Bazaar
The United Methodist Women’s group of Smithville First and Bright Hill United Methodist Church is hosting a Fall Craft Bazaar and Bake Sale for the dates of Friday, November 5 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Saturday, November 6 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. It will be held at the Christian Fellowship Center, located at 102 West Church Street. Featured will be home-made baked goods, Christmas items, hand-crafted items and plants. Lunch will be served on Friday from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 12 noon. The menu will consist of homemade soups, grilled cheese sandwiches and hot dog with chips, desserts, coffee and drinks, Proceeds will be used for donations to local community causes. Social distancing guidelines will be followed. Wearing a mask is appreciated for everyone’s safety.
Snow Hill Baptist Church Food Giveaway
Snow Hill Baptist church will be giving away food on Sunday. October 17th at 1:30 at the church. Please line up on the East side of the church and drive around. Someone will put the food in your car. No restrooms will be available; please stay in your car. Everyone is welcome. Todd Pack is the pastor.. Due to circumstances beyond their control, there will only be 2 more food give aways. There will be the one this Sunday, October 17th and one in November. We are most appreciative of the people who have helped over the last 25 years, as well as, the people who who have donated food and money to our cause. A special thanks goes to WJLE and Dwayne Page; to Angie Meadows and the Smithville Review; and to Food Lion who has made this give away possible. We thank the people who have attended the food ministry, not only for food, but spiritual growth as well. A very special thanks goes to Pastor Steve Puckett and his wife Vickie, who had the vision of a need in this county and followed through with it. Their leadership and guidance has made this possible.
DeKalb County Fair Hosting “Fright at the Fairgrounds” October 30

Habitat Chili Cook-Off and Bake Sale October 22
Who makes the best chili in DeKalb County? Find out on Friday, October 22nd when Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County hosts a Chili Cook-off and Bake Sale. Chili will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the DeKalb Courthouse Lawn. In case of bad weather, the event will be cancelled. A decision will be announced about cancellation by Wed., Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. For a cash donation, eat all the chili you want and vote for your favorite chili and the best decorated booth. Delicious baked goods prepared by members of local churches will also be for sale. Take out is also available.
DCHS Tigerettes to Host Alumni Softball Game
The DCHS Tigerettes will host an Alumni Softball Game on Sunday, October 24 at 2 p.m. at the Danny Bond Field. The cost of registration is $25 which includes a t-shirt. Volunteers needed for working at Whorton Springs Cemetery
Volunteers needed for working at Whorton Springs Cemetery. This is not mowing or weed eating. It will be to fill graves that have sunken and reset monuments that are leaning or that have already fallen. Shovels and rakes are the only tools needed. The dirt will be moved with the assistance already volunteered by individual with a skid-steer. October 23, 2021 8:00 a.m. In case of rain, working will be postponed to following Saturday October 30, 2021 8:00 a.m.
UCHRA Commodities Distribution
The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA) will hold a commodities distribution for DeKalb County on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the DeKalb County UCHRA office. Sign-up will be available at the distribution site. This project is funded under a Grant Contract with the State of Tennessee

DEA National Drug Take Back Day October 23
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is set for Saturday, October 23. As part of this major health and safety initiative, the DeKalb Prevention Coalition will host this take-back event at Smithville City Hall and the Alexandria City Hall from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
